20 Gender Neutral Dog Names

Written by aslmad.yaz

Selecting a unisex gender-neutral dog name for your furry friend is a thoughtful process. Begin by brainstorming names that are neither too masculine nor too feminine. Simple, one or two-syllable names work well. Names like Riley, Charlie, or Casey are good examples.

Observe your dog’s personality. If they are little mischievous, a name like Bane could be fitting. For a calm and gentle pup, consider a gender neutral name like River. Keep in mind that some names, like Jack or Rose, naturally lean gender-neutral for obvious reasons. Off topic, but could Jack have fit on that door? This will haunt us forever. Anyway, back to the point.

Also, Consider your dog’s physical traits. Names related to their size or color can be a fun choice. Test the name out loud. Say it repeatedly to see if it feels comfortable and rolls off your tongue easily. Ensure it doesn’t sound too similar to common commands like “sit” or “stay.” Lastly, involve your dog in the decision-making process. Call out the name you’re considering and observe their reaction. A positive response, like wagging their tail, is a good sign.

Just a heads up, we’re not going to go full Elon Musk on you here.

  • Bear: If you have a big boy or girl, this might be the way to go. And if you’re a fan of “The Bear,” then even better. You might even go with “Carry” in this spot.

  • Taylor: Taylor Swift or 10-time Pro Bowl NFL legend Lawrence Taylor? Let the people decide.
  • Takoda: Sioux for “friend to everyone,” this name is traditionally masculine, but if your friendly dog has never met a stranger, this could be the name for them.

  • Jedi: The Jedi Council really appreciated diversity.
  • Phoenix: Fan of the late River Phoenix or his brother? Also a fan of the X-Men?

  • Kennedy: This last name in America is probably more famous than the name McDonald’s. Every year we realize a new Kennedy exists. Might as well add one more.
