Have you ever wondered what your dog feels like? Are you curious what your precious pooch sees through their adorable puppy eyes every time they beg for a treat? Well, the time for speculation is over. A new sensory science exhibit, titled “Cats & Dogs: The Exhibition,” is set to get you in touch with both your canine and feline instincts, according to Axios Des Moines.
Staged at the Science Center of Iowa (SCI), the sensory exhibition is based on our current scientific, sociological, and cultural knowledge about dogs and cats. What’s more, it provides an insight into the ways our beloved furry friends experience our world.
Learn how dogs view the world through sensory science adventure
Scientific advances in animal behavior have revealed the intelligence and awareness our companion animals possess. “Cats & Dogs” was created by La Cité des Sciences et de l’Industrie, in collaboration with Le Musée de la Civilisation, and produced by Imagine Exhibitions.
According to the Science Center of Iowa, this immersive exhibition celebrates the very value that our faithful pets add to our lives — by letting us experience the world as they do. Curt Simmons, SCI’s President and CEO, comments that this state-of-the-art science exhibit engages visitors with accessible and relatable content.
According to Simmons, “There’s nothing better than putting yourself in an animal’s place to understand them better and decode their behavior.”
The exhibition is arranged in a way that brings three distinct environments to life for viewers. For that reason, organizers were meticulous about the clever use of colors, materials, and thoughtfully selected furnishings.
Simulate your dog’s experience in a one-of-a-kind sensory rollercoaster
In the first space of the exhibit, titled “In the skin,” visitors can compare their physical skills to those of their pets. How fast and agile are you? How high can you jump? Well, now you can examine your own abilities and body shapes in reference to canine and feline anatomies. To put it another way, the exhibit provides the chance to compare and contrast your abilities with those of your pets’.
Next, you can move on to the sensory part of the science exhibit. Here, you can feel what it is like to be a dog or a cat. Titled “In the head,” this interactive section delights visitors with unique experiments that help people communicate with dogs and cats. Furthermore, the display will help viewers interpret pets’ emotions and unravel their behaviors.
Why understanding our pets is essential to our relationship with them
Cats and dogs populate our homes, neighborhoods, and even society. Given that, the final segment of the exhibit demonstrates the evolution of our interaction with these animals. Additionally, it showcases the critical function they play in our society today.
Tom Zaller, CEO of Imagine Exhibitions, comments on the invaluable companionship which pets provide to millions of people. Now, through this sensory exhibit, we finally have a chance to understand them better. As such, “Cats & Dogs: The Exhibition” can easily become — as Zaller suggests — “a delightful way for the whole family to get to know their furry friends.”
