Passersby in downtown Los Angeles over the weekend witnessed a frightening scene when a woman jumped on car after her French Bulldog was stolen.
Ali Zacharias was enjoying lunch with her black merle, spotted Frenchie, Onyx, when an unidentified woman snatched the dog’s leash and walked away, according to ABC7. As any pet parent would, Zacharias followed the woman who then entered a in a late-model white Kia Forte with three other passengers and sped off.
French Bulldog was stolen and still missing
“I thought I was going to die. I just was like ‘this is it,’” Zacharias said of the ordeal. She clung to the car for a few blocks, but was thrown off after the suspects swerved through traffic. She stated she “stood in front” of the car, but “fell on top of the hood” when they sped away. “Before I knew it, they were like backing up and taking off,” Zacharias said.
She is offering a reward for her “buddy” and “wingman,” and anyone with information has been instructed to call the Los Angeles Police Department.
Was money a factor?
Named 2023’s most popular dog breed in America, the French Bulldog is an obvious hot-ticket item for any dog thief. MarketWatch states the French Bulldog price to run anywhere from $1,500 to $3,000 depending on location. With Onyx being abducted in Los Angeles, we can assume the price would be on the higher end.
Unfortunately, dog theft is a real concern for many pet owners. But there are steps you can take to deter thieves and keep your furry friend safe: Microchip, ID tags, GPS trackers. There are also preventative measures like teaching your dog basic commands and being vigilant in public spaces.
Remember, even with these precautions, vigilance is key. By being aware of your surroundings and taking steps to deter thieves, you can help keep your beloved dog safe. If you suspect your dog has been stolen, immediately contact the police and animal control services. File a lost pet report and share photos and descriptions of your dog on social media and lost pet websites.
