Jackabee Dog Breed Pictures, Characteristics, and Facts

The Jackabee is a mixed breed, so they don’t have history as their own breed. With that being said, both parent breeds are well established and loved for many reasons. The Jack Russell Terrier was developed in southern England during the mid-1800s by Parson John Russell – the breed took their name from their creator, and they’re sometimes additionally known as the Parson Russell Terrier. Russell aimed to create a working terrier who would hunt with hounds, bolting foxes from their dens so the hounds could chase them. The JRT was successful at this task, but was also used to keep rats from stables and barns due to their small size and skills at hunting. The breed grew in popularity in the US during the 1930s, and has only gotten more well-known from there.

The Beagle breed’s history is cloudy because breeds as we know them today didn’t really develop until the 19th century. However, Greek documents from 400 B.C. describe Beagle-like dogs, though of course they wouldn’t follow today’s breed standards. William the Conqueror reportedly brought Talbot hounds (now extinct) to England during the Norman Conquest in 1066. These dogs are thought to be the ancestors of the Beagle as well as the Foxhound. After their reign of popularity in England, the American Kennel Club and the first Beagle specialty club both were founded in 1884. In that same year, the AKC began registering Beagles.
